A new report, Equity Starts Early: How Chiefs Will Build High-Quality Early Education, has just been released by state education leaders promoting the importance of high-quality early education, especially for children from low-income families. Here’s a quote from the report:

“High-quality early education programs can improve outcomes, narrow achievement gaps, and convey long-term benefits for children in school and life.”

Wisconsin was noted for having 97% of public school districts with elementary schools offering 4-year-old Kindergarten, and 28% of these districts partnering with child care, Head Start, or private schools.

The report is from the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). State Superintendent Tony Evers is now the Executive Board President. Superintendent Evers co-chairs the Governor’s Early Childhood Advisory Council (ECAC) in Wisconsin, and has endorsed recommendations to increase the number of children in high-quality child care.
