Happy 4th Anniversary of CHIPRA Reauthorization

Since 2009, the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA) has helped tens of thousands of Wisconsin kids access BadgerCare coverage. BadgerCare continues to be vital to working families struggling to provide health care for their children, especially during the economic downturn and slow recovery.

Through CHIPRA, Wisconsin has been able to utilize a wide range of policy and programmatic tools to increase coverage efforts. These efforts, to cut red tape and improve renewal processes, have also yielded Wisconsin nearly $80 million in federal CHIPRA bonus funds.

We must continue to move forward in the next few years, working at the federal level to renew CHIP funding and at the state level to redouble our efforts  to ensure that all Wisconsin children are enrolled in coverage. This work will be especially critical as we coordinate BadgerCare with new coverage opportunities from the Affordable Care Act, and ensure that all kids have coverage and access to essential medical services.
