Initial progress is promising in Milwaukee Succeeds: a broad-based initiative to ensure success for every child in every school, cradle to career, according to its 2014 Milestone Report. Milwaukee Succeeds is working to harness the community’s collective power to help kids succeed, with 2020 outcomes to measure progress over time in several areas: school readiness, K-12 academic success, postsecondary success, and social and emotional support.

The report shows how Milwaukee is doing on 11 measures, with headway made on eight measures. In the school readiness area, advancement has already been made in all three measures: literacy skills, immunization rates, and children in high-quality child care (programs that are rated 4-star or 5-star in the YoungStar quality rating and improvement system).

Milwaukee Succeeds is driven by collaboration with hundreds of community partners to improve academic success for children, with oversight by a strong Leadership Council.

Rich Get Richer under Proposed Tax Plan

From Racine to Rhinelander, everyone in Wisconsin deserves the freedom to make a good living and care for our families. However, the tax plan proposed by Republican legislative leadership would further rig the rules in favor of the wealthiest and make Wisconsin’s glaring racial disparities even worse. The four proposals leave everyday families even further behind because none of these tax proposals effectively target families who are struggling to make ends meet.
