Home 9 Health Care 9 More States Release Insurance Rate Information; Suspense Builds in Wisconsin

We’re only a week away from the launch of the new health insurance Marketplaces – which will begin on October 1 to take applications for coverage that will start in January. As that date nears, Wisconsin’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance has chosen not to release any specific information about the rates for the new insurance plans that will be available in Wisconsin through the Marketplace.

Not all the states are keeping that information so close to the vest.  An interactive map on the StateReforum website indicates that 26 states and the District of Columbia have released detailed rate information or examples of the rates.  Late last week State Reforum provided the following update about states that have released rate information over the last couple of weeks:

  • Idaho – Your Health Idaho announced that eight insurers will offer plans on the exchange and released a table with premium ranges by zip code.
  • Kentucky – Kynect released a series of profiles of Kentuckians and outlines the cost of insurance based on plans submitted. The profiles include information on all tiers (bronze, silver, gold, platinum) of coverage.
  • Minnesota – MNSure and the Minnesota Department of Commerce held a press conference to announce final rates that they say are the lowest in the nation so far.
  • Kansas – Kansas has a new site for consumers that includes a cost-calculator based on the silver cost plans in the exchange.
  • Utah –Utah announced that six insurers will offer plans through the federal individual marketplace and provided examples of silver plan premiums in some counties.

I guess not all the states share Wisconsin’s perspective on the value of suspense.
