Juvenile Justice Geography, Police, Practice, and Statistics (JJGPS) has launched a new, state-specific profile system for exploring information on juvenile justice, providing a more comprehensive and detailed review of individual states. The profile includes information related to six key areas: jurisdictional boundaries, juvenile defense, racial/ethnic fairness, juvenile justice services, status offense issues, and systems integration. These categories provide a great overview of the structure and process of Wisconsin’s juvenile justice system.

In addition to organization information, each profile includes state statistics and comparisons to national averages on key juvenile justice indicators. Although we’ve seen much of this data before, comparisons with the national average show where Wisconsin is doing well and allows us to identify areas for improvement. Overall, Wisconsin’s profile shows the downward trends in arrests and detainment that we outlined in our recent report on continuing trends in the juvenile justice system.

Take a look at Wisconsin’s profile for more data and information related to juvenile justice.

These challenges were particularly acute for students who were more likely to be struggling prior to the pandemic, like students with lower incomes, students of color, and students who speak English as a second language. With federal pandemic relief funds drying up, state leaders must ensure schools have adequate resources and that students don’t fall even more behind.
