2020 continues to deliver revelations, challenges, and opportunities for each and every one of us.  Revelations we are still processing from last week’s presidential election, the structural inequities exacerbated by health, economic, and racial justice crises, and the opportunities to alleviate the systemic inequities that continue to leave people of color behind.  We know policy matters, now more than ever.

Last week Wisconsinites spoke with our votes, our voices.  Many of those votes revealed that we have a lot of work ahead of us.  Kids Forward is working every single day for racial equity in Wisconsin’s systems and we are grateful you are with us.  We envision a Wisconsin where every kid thrives, especially children of color and those furthest from opportunity.  Our work – demanding transformative change to the structures and systems that leave people of color behind – is critical to our shared future.

As John Lewis said, “Democracy is not a state. It is an act.”  We cannot depend on one election or one party alone to dismantle systemic racism or solve all our most pressing challenges and needs.  We must work together within our state and across the nation. While we have tirelessly worked this past year, we must not let up.  We continue to demand change.  We must insist that our elected officials create policy that improves the well being of every kid and every family throughout the state.

Democracy is a continued state of action.  Kids Forward will continue to prioritize advocacy, policy analysis, and collaborations with groups and individuals working in support of children and families.  Together, we will not waiver in our collective effort to build a state that serves all Wisconsinites.  Your support and commitment to advance racially just policy solutions is essential to building a thriving Wisconsin.

Thank you for all that you do in the name of racial equity. Thank you for your past support. To help ensure policy matters as we put the challenges and opportunities of this election to work, will you consider making a gift for racial equity and transformative system change?  A monthly sustaining gift will ensure our continued state of action for racially just policy solutions for Wisconsin to thrive.  Your support is critical as we demand change benefitting every child and every family in Wisconsin.

Look for our upcoming analysis of what this election means for Wisconsin and the priorities we know will ensure every kid, every family, and every community thrives. Proposed Tax Cut Privileges Wealthiest 1%, Leaves Struggling Families Behind

Wisconsin can be a place where we all—regardless of race or place—have what we need to make ends meet. However, last week the Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee voted for a tax cut that would aid in gutting supports for families. Letting Wisconsin’s wealthiest off the hook from paying what they owe means many struggling families are left behind, particularly children and families of color and those furthest from opportunity. We are calling on Governor Evers to stand up for everyday families and veto this tax cut for the wealthy few.
