This tax day, millions of everyday Wisconsinites will pay their fair share of taxes to support roads, schools, health care, and the education that people depend on every day.

Billionaires, on the other hand, will continue to pay relatively little thanks to tax loopholes and the Trump tax law that gave the richest Wisconsinites massive tax breaks.

Because of the Trump tax law, Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TJCA), American billionaires have become over $2 trillion richer since 2017, when the law was passed.

The Trump tax law expires this year, but it’s a top priority for Republican leaders to make the tax cuts for the wealthy permanent–even if they have to cut Medicaid, Medicare, food assistance and education to do it. Here in Wisconsin, making the Trump tax law permanent will make the wealthiest 1% more than $71,000 richer in 2026.

How will they pay for permanent tax cuts for the rich?

By cutting health care for children. Wisconsin Republicans in both the House & Senate have voted to slash Medicaid–which provides health care coverage for one in three children across Wisconsin, including rural communities–by $880 billion and raises costs for millions more people who have private coverage.

More tax breaks for the wealthiest Wisconsinites will just make the rich richer while making the rest of us pay for it by taking away healthcare and critical resources everyday people need.

Governor Evers has proposed a state budget that would help ensure the wealthy pay what they owe in state taxes, while providing many everyday supports that families need. Learn more about the state budget and let your legislators know that Wisconsin needs an equitable tax system.
