Wisconsin has been named a top state for charter schools at the pre-kindergarten level, according to a new report, Pre-K and Charter Schools: Where State Policies Create Barriers to Collaboration. The report, by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, ranked Wisconsin in the top five states offering a hospitable climate for charter schools seeking to offer Pre-K.

According to Wisconsin’s State Superintendent Tony Evers, “Wisconsin enshrined education for 4-year-olds in our state’s constitution, making it easier for all public schools, including charter schools, to offer preschool services to children and families in their communities. We also have strong chartering laws that encourage collaboration.”

K-12 Education in the Fox Valley

Every student in the Fox Valley region deserves to receive the educational support and resources needed to help them achieve a bright future. Over the past few years, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant impacts on students in Wisconsin. These challenges were particularly acute for students who were more likely to be struggling prior to the pandemic, like students with lower incomes, students of color, and students who speak English as a second language. With federal pandemic relief funds drying up, state leaders must ensure schools have adequate resources and that students don’t fall even more behind.
