Home 9 Federal Advocacy 9 Wisconsin Agriculture, Hunger Relief Groups Call for Action to Support FoodShare

Last year, Trump & his supporters in Congress passed the Republican megabill. This bill gutted funding for a bunch of essential services our communities rely on in order to give tax breaks to the rich. One of those services was SNAP/FoodShare, which ensures that 700k people across our state have enough to eat.

In the wake of these federal changes, we’re urging state decision makers to make the humane choice and ensure FoodShare has the funds it needs to avoid paying hundreds of millions in penalties in the future and fill the gap left by the federal cuts.

Wednesday, we joined with food pantries, small business owners, religious leaders, grocers and more across our state to urge our state legislators to fully and immediately support the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ (DHS) request for funding to pay for changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, $69.2 million.
