Wisconsin is 6th in the nation in four-year-old access to state-funded preschool education, according to the annual state Pre-K report for 2014, released by the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER).

The survey found that 49,687 four-year-olds were enrolled in Wisconsin’s 4-year-old Kindergarten (4K) and in state-funded Head Start programs. The report shows that 71% of Wisconsin four-year-olds are participating in Pre-K programs.
In the last 6 annual reports, Wisconsin has ranked between 4th and 6th in the nation. A review of NIEER Pre-K reports shows that children in state-funded Pre-K has more than tripled; the 2004 survey showed the 16,051 four-year-olds were participating.
