National Article Draws Attention to the Squeeze on Wisconsin Schools

In case you missed it, Thursday’s Wisconsin Budget Project Blog commented on an article in Governing.com about the fiscal straightjacket Wisconsin schools find themselves in because of the state-imposed revenue limits. The rigidity of those revenue caps is a key issue for the quality of our schools, and also for a broader debate about the role of local elected officials in determining property tax rates.   Although the question of “local control” over school budget choices could be a very important part of state budget bill deliberations, it has gotten very little public attention in recent months.

Please read that Budget Project blog post, as well as the Governing article, and comment on the blog to share with us your thoughts about school financing and local control.
